19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently working with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks his initial trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.
Success also signifies the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.
The player's defensive strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had led observers to question if his ability to play at the top level was finished.
However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an better service.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the final five games to go ahead.
Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to create a decider.
Moutet rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
